Visiting Scholars
Gil Watz Visiting Scholars
Gil Watz Visiting Scholars typically spend up to one month in residence at the Pennsylvania State University. In addition to office space on campus, a computer, and access to the university library, Watz Scholars also receive a stipend for travel and lodging. Watz Scholars have included:
Leo van Lier, Fall 2006
While at Penn State, Professor van Lier, of the Monterey Institute of International Studies, gave a lecture entitled “Action-Based Teaching, Autonomy, and Identity."
Steven McCafferty, Fall 2004
While at Penn State, Professor McCafferty, of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, gave a lecture entitled “Gesture, Metaphor, and Internalization: Material Foundations for Second Language Learning.”
Teresa Bajo, Fall 2004
While at Penn State, Professor Bajo, of the University of Grenada, Spain, gave lectures entitled “Working Memory, Executive functions and Expertise in Language Interpretation” and “Comprehension and reformulation in translation: Horizontal or vertical processes?”
Michael McCarthy, Spring 2004
While at Penn State, Professor McCarthy of the University of Nottingham, Great Britain, gave lectures entitled “Coming of Age: Spoken Corpora, Discourse and Pragmatics” and “Using Corpora to Write a Grammar of English.”
Center for Language Acquisition Visiting Scholars
Center for Language Acquisition Visiting Scholars may spend up to one academic year in residence at the Pennsylvania State University. Center Scholars are provided with office space on campus and computer access as well as use of the university library. Center Scholars have included:
