1. Logon to any CAC lab IBM machine with your PSU Access user ID and password
2. Double-click the Program Groups folder
3. Double-click the Language 3 folder
4. Double-click the Chinese Star icon

Double-click Chinese Star 3.0 For Windows NT. There will be a menu at the upper left corner of the screen, which includes 3 buttons.

Start Chinese Star. Make sure the chain menu at the top of your screen. Start Microsoft Word, or another word processor.

If you want to type simplified Chinese, Chinese Star offers you 6 ways to type. Click the middle button of the menu, there pops out a list.

If you want to use Pinyin, click 1. 新全拼, or 2. 新双拼. You can also use 3.国标 区位，4.五笔形，5.五笔画， 6五笔桥 if you know how to type Wubi. If you want to type traditional Chinese, click 7, 8,9, you can use 繁体注音，繁体简易，繁体仓颉输入法，大五码 respectively. Click 0 to switch to English.

The small window at the bottom of the screen is for you to choose words. You can use any tool of Microsoft Word to edit and print your documents.

Some Tips

The left button of the menu is used to change the process system. Click on it, a list will pop up on the screen.

G. means 功能键定义. Click it, a form will appear on the screen offering you the different keyboard functions Chinese Star provides. You can change or add some functions as it suggests.

S . can be used to switch the system between Simplified Chinese GB2312 and Traditional Chinese BIG5.

M. under the T. means 菜单翻译， Menu Translation. It offers a long list of frequently used English computer words. Click the one you can not understand. The dialogue frame at the bottom will give you the Chinese translation.

Click on S under the T. to start the dynamic English-Chinese and Chinese-English dictionary. Click P.under T.you can enter the Jinshan Ciba dynamic dictionary program designed to help reading and writing. Move your mouse to the words you do not understand, either Chinese or English, stay on the word for a second and Jinshan Ciba will offer you the proper translation. O.under T.is to close the dictionary.

H. is for Help. D. is for Customize, A. About and X. means Exit.

The right button of the menu is the clock button which offers two functions. 1. Move the mouse to the button and hold on for a second, it will show you the date, day, and time. 2. Click the clock button, the dialogue box can offer 快速运行用户所需的应用程式.

Quitting Chinese Star

Under the main menu at the top of your screen, click the left button, select X.
